Nanosilver clothing researched by Prosuite project for environmental impact

The European Union is funding the project, Prosuite, to investigate the human and environmental impact of nanosilver technology.  Also referred to as antimicrobial silver nanoparticles, it is being used in sports shirts and socks to reduce odor.  And, while silver has been been used as a biocide for medial purposes since the 1930s, the Prosuite project is conducting studies to determine the impact of its continued use in textile production and use by consumers. This is quite the divergence from the typical stories covered in this blog.  Usually we cover good and bad reactions of people wearing certain slogans and designs on their T-shirts.  Here, we have something that rarely surfaces and/or is discussed, concerning the environmental impact of the production of T-shirts.  The article (see link below) discusses further the awareness and continued efforts to try and study nanosilver usage.  Additionally, A growing trend, and if not universally accepted now, is the use of water-based ink for all T-shirt printing.  These are much better than the oil based inks used just a few years ago.
